Job Shadow
Reflexion
Last year I was assigned to work on my job shadow where I would have to schedule an appointment to job shadow somebody who falls under my career choice. At first I was like okay great another thing to add to my list. Having many things on my plate made me stress a bit and now I had to take a day off and work on this. Luckily we were coming close towards to Thanksgiving break which was a great time for my job shadow. While on Thanksgiving break I was able to schedule an appointment with a dentist in San Francisco, which was where I was at the time due to visiting my family while on break. Since I've always been interested in the medical field because helping people is something I enjoy I decided to go to a dentist.
Once I got to Dr. Gee's office I introduced myself and was instructed to wear scrubs as if I were already working there. I immediately got the opportunity to watch him while on the job to clean and improve his patient's hygiene. I even got the chance to help sanitize the tools and area where the Dr.Gee worked. I also was introduced on how taking x-rays on patients works and how it helps the doctor know an update on the patient's teeth. Later I got to spend time with the doctor where I asked him questions and where he gave me some advice about education.
While on my job shadow I learned many new things about how a job in the medical field is like. For example you not only help people when they walk through the doors, you help impact their life and assist in making it better. For that reason I know that a job in the medical field is right for me. ALthough I am still not sure if being a dentist is what I want to pursue as a career I will definitely keep it in mind because the experience was great. I know have an insight of what that career choice would be like and can use that to my advantage for the future.
